Some football matches are so fierce and evenly matched that it is not possible to determine a winner after regulation time, even after a large number of minutes have been added. In cup matches, at the stage when there must be one winning team left, there is overtime in case of a tie.
Overtime is also divided into two halves. The length of each half is 15 minutes and there is no break in between. The rules of the game during overtime are exactly the same as in regular meeting times. Each coach can make changes in tactics and replace tired players. In the past, there was a “golden goal” rule, which made the team scoring first win the match.
Over time, it was abandoned. Currently, two full halves are played. The team that simply scores more goals wins. If there is still a tie after overtime, then penalty kicks are the deciding factor.
